Rock royalty Thin Lizzy do their bit for Sport Relief 2012
World famous rock band Thin Lizzy rocked St David’s Hall last night with their new show-stopping performance of ‘The Boys are Back’ tour whilst also doing their bit for Sport Relief 2012. Lead singer Ricky Warwick, bassist Marco Mendoza, guitarist Damon Johnson and Darren Wharton on keyboards donned their Sport Relief t-shirts to show their support of the campaign and to encourage the people of Cardiff to enter the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile on Sunday 25th March.
The legendary rockers who exploded ‘Live and Dangerous’ onto the scene over 20 years ago, are back with an all-new, star-studded line up, as well as original members Brian Downey and Scott Gorham, and are taking their music to a whole new generation of music fans in South Wales. Despite the hard rock legends’ busy schedule, the band couldn’t wait to get involved with this year’s Sport Relief campaign.
Ricky Warwick, lead singer of Thin Lizzy is encouraging the public to get involved too: “Come on Cardiff! Why don’t you show your support for Sport Relief and enter the Cardiff Mile on March 25th and help transform thousands of lives here in Cardiff, across the UK and in the world’s poorest countries. You can ‘do anything you want to’ – run, dance, walk or rock out along the route! Visit www.sportrelief.com to sign up and get sponsored.”
This year, over one million people are expected to pull up their socks and take part in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in order to raise some serious cash for vulnerable people right here in Cardiff, across the UK and in the world’s poorest countries.
Join thousands of people in beautiful Cardiff Bay, with a route that takes in the Roald Dahl Plass, the Wales Millennium Centre and the Pierhead building as well as being packed full of entertainment and friendly faces (some famous) to cheer you on. Last time, more than 4000 people took part in the Cardiff Mile, and the people of Wales have raised and donated over £1 million. Since then, more than £1.9 million has been spent on local projects in Wales. Enter the Cardiff Mile by visiting www.sportreleif.com.
Cardiff council has created its bin collection service in order to be able to recycle more, something brought forward by residents of the city. The weekly recycling collections will also help Cardiff stay on track with Welsh Government recycling targets, whilst reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.
It’s important to note that your garden waste and general waste will be collected fortnightly on alternate weeks.
The weekly schedule for recycling collection days are as follows:

The opening post on the blog sums up the premise for its existence quite well;
“I love Internet. Until my most recent experience, and still after that, I´m
still convinced that you can find ALMOST anything there, but when it comes to
solving really big /urgent /unknown/first time matters, you just really want to
talk to someone, to hear a nice friendly voice explaining you what´s all about.
Specially regarding the hows to study in the UK as an international student.”

The official site for Dave's Gym is here: daves-gym.co.uk, but well worth checking out is Dave's Gym's blog at davesgymblog.blogspot.com. This honestly makes for some hilarious reading as well as being factual and informative giving you info on workouts and training going on in the gym. Dave also posts about nutritional information, breaks down what to eat and what not to, sets out structured training routines and even posts videos of others doing it for you so you can see just how its done.
For anyone who's ever been daunted by the thought of going to the gym, the sheer manner in which this blog is written really gives you a joyous outlook on training and makes it seem a lot more fun... although Dave does go into quite some detail at how much it can hurt at the time too!

We are Cardiff is a storytelling website featuring short tales from residents in Cardiff about how they came to be here, the things that attracted them to the city, likes as well as dislikes and peoples aspirations for the future.
Now celebrating over a year of publishing stories, the we are Cardiff site provides a very interesting read including “the most read story” on the site, a story of Bethan Elfyn, whom many will know from BBC Radio.
A great summary not only of the website but also highlighting many of the features which often go unnoticed in Cardiff can be found on their about us page, it reads:
“Cardiff is a little city, but at the same time, it’s a great one. You encounter any number of different nationalities on a daily basis – you see the interaction between traditional Welsh culture and its English counterpart. You see roadsigns in Welsh first, English second. We have a resident circus. We have sandy beaches and waterfalls and castles and caves within driving distances. We have abandoned nuclear bunkers, hidden tunnels underneath the city centre, an enormous stadium, a beautiful museum, gorgeous parks and old Roman forts. We have the world’s oldest record shop, coastline rich in fossils and a colourful gay pride festival. Most of all, we have a lot of interesting people that inhabit the city. This website is about them.”
We are Cardiff has regular updates and for those interested in reading about stories from the city it’s well worth signing up to their e-mail subscription, which only sends out notifications of new stories and isn’t too frequent to fill your inbox.
The site also features some very beautiful pictures of residents in the stories, often posing in places of the city poignant to their tales.
