Louise West is a textile designer and artist who works in a variety of media exploring pattern, colour and stitch in response to traditional crafts and artefacts. This series of paintings explores a childhood love of birds, working from a selection of references from Thornton’s illustrations of birds, the children’s Lady Bird series, bird spotting books and a collection of wonky bird ornaments. Nature competes with second hand knick-knacks, embroidery and granny’s fabrics creating a sense of irreverence and play amongst the birds.
