First ever all Wales bisexual event announced

On Saturday 24th April, Bi Cymru/Wales will be holding the first ever ‘BiFest Wales’ event at Cardiff University Students’ Union, from 12 noon till late.

This first ever all-Wales bisexual event came about from local bi people commenting on the lack of any events for or about their community.

Kay Barnes, chair of Bi Cymru/Wales and Bi Cardiff said “Bisexual people have no safe spaces, there is discrimination on both the straight and gay scenes. Bisexual people in Wales wanted an event for them that was a safe space to discuss their issues.”

Ele Hicks, BiFest Wales organiser and committee member of Bi Cymru and Bi Swansea, added “It's important to have a place where supportive people, gay, straight and bi, can openly debate and highlight issues in the bi community that are often quite different from those facing the lesbian and gay communities.”

The one-day event will tackle issues such as biphobic hate crime; bisexual issues in the workplace; bi invisibility; living as bi in a gay and straight world and finding the bi community in Wales in addition to providing a wealth of resources and information for bi people and their allies.

The one-day event is for bisexual people, their friends, allies and anyone interested in bisexuality of all ages. The event will include workshops, social spaces and community stalls. Entry is £10 waged or £5 unwaged, just turn up and pay on the door.

BiFest Wales is entirely run by volunteers who wanted to see an annual event in Wales for bisexual people and friends of all sexual orientations to tackle the issues important to bisexual people and to get together in a friendly, networking space.
