THE BIG LUNCH SERVES UP A 3D MASTERPIECE IN CARDIFF
The people of Cardiff will be invited to step into a giant piece of 3D artwork outside on Queen Street on Thursday June 3rd to launch this year’s campaign for The Big Lunch in stunning fashion.
The Big Lunch is an annual event, which encourages people to sit down with their neighbours for lunch on one day of the year in a simple act of friendship and community.
Last year the best part of a million people took part and we are now inviting Cardiff to get their preparations for this year’s Big Lunch off the ground.
This huge five-by-five metre canvas will see giant sandwiches, fruit, cakes, burgers, buns and cups of tea break free from a Big Lunch table and “float up” into the hands of the surrounding Big Lunchers, reminding the nation to get ready for this year’s Big Lunch on Sunday July 18.

The Big Lunch 2010 is a short eight weeks away, and those who love to lunch and are planning a street party will be reminded of the imminent deadline for applying to their local Council to close their road. For those lunchers not planning to close their street, opting for a BBQ in the back-garden or a picnic in park instead, now is the time to gather neighbours together and start planning for the biggest Big Lunch yet on Sunday 18th July
The Big Lunch is led by the Eden Project, with the support of a family of partners – The Big Lottery Fund, MasterCard, EDF Energy and the Department of Communities and Local Government. Last year, the first Big Lunch saw the best part of a million people come together, hosting events ranging from simple back garden barbecues to full-on street parties with food and entertainment. This year, The Big Lunch is encouraging millions more to join forces, knock on the doors of their neighbours, say hello and invite them for lunch.
