New Bar & Restaurant Opens In Cardiff City Centre

BEATBOX BARS, the independent Cardiff bar & restaurant group behind Buffalo, 10 Feet Tall and Undertone, has announced the opening of its new venture FIRE ISLAND.

This beautiful but previously neglected heritage landmark has been revived to bring a unique bar and restaurant specialising in CRAFT BEER, BARREL AGED COCKTAILS and HOME-SMOKED & GRILLED BBQ style food.

Formerly Glamorgan Council Staff Club, it boasts a grand entrance on Westgate Street opposite the Millennium Stadium, and a 'speakeasy' style entrance on the cobbles of Womanby Street.

Inside, the two-storey building incorporates a Prohibition speakeasy style, while cleverly using the magnificent brick vaults to create an impressive bierkeller atmosphere.

The food menu will include SLOW-SMOKED & GRILLED MEAT, paired with HOMEMADE SLAWS and PICKLES.

Dan Biscombe, a Director at Beatbox Bars, said: “We’re really passionate about providing the most authentic American style smoked BBQ and craft beer in Cardiff.

“We have barrel aged cocktails, created using homemade bitters. We make all our own sauces and rubs, and our meat is cooked low and slow to make sure everything is just right. Customers can try pulled pork, beef brisket and home-smoked ribs from our smoking cabinets”.

Open from 9am daily, Fire Island will also serve breakfasts from AMERICAN PANCAKES to a full traditional ENGLISH BREAKFAST, with fresh coffee, juices and specialty SUKI TEAS.

On tap will be a range of handpicked CRAFT BEER from the UK & beyond, with TINY REBEL BREWERY who have also created a house brew BEATBOX APA. BRISTOL BEER FACTORY, DARK STAR BREWING CO and REDEMPTION BREWING COMPANY will also feature – but to help customers decide, the bar will be introducing BEER FLIGHTS – a selection of three 1/3 pint tasters.

FIRE ISLAND opens its doors to the public on Saturday 24th November, and bookings are now being taken including the Christmas period.

Opening times will be Monday to Sunday 9am – 1.30am.
